Dan Gruenefeldt recently built our new 5,800 s.f. home in Aspen Glen in 8 ½ months, start to finish. A truly unbelievable feat given that our last home building venture in Malibu, California took well over two years after plans were approved and permits issued.
Sue Hess, the real estate agent who handled the purchase of our lot, introduced us to Dan. Dan in turn introduced us to others for whom he had previously built homes. Everyone said the same thing….Dan is the best builder in the valley. Period. We were told again and again that he builds houses on schedule, on budget and as perfect as a house can be built. From our previous experiences, it was hard for us to imagine such accolades attributed to any homebuilder on the planet. Dan proved his fan’s rave reviews to be 100% accurate across the board.
Dan was incredibly creative and inventive as we started designing the floor plan, something we wanted to do myself to insure that the space was exactly what we wanted and the flow from room to room was reflective of our live style and how we live. At the beginning, he provided us with a very detailed survey of our property with every possible important view located on the plans so that we could be assured that the location of the house on our lot took advantage of every view while remaining within the building envelope. Once the floor plan was completed, Dan worked closely with the architect and us to insure that every detail was properly thought out and noted on the final architectural plans.
Throughout the entire design and construction process, we thoroughly enjoyed working closely with Dan. He quickly developed an amazing sense of what we wanted plus our likes and dislikes, helping guide us through the hundreds of decisions we had to make along the way. And because of his well-deserved reputation for accuracy and thoroughness, our construction plans were approved in less than two weeks by Garfield County versus over a year in Malibu.
Dan was also very thorough when estimating costs and establishing a realistic construction budget. He worked with us every step of the way as we started specifying materials, fixtures, appliances and finishes to make sure we got the quality home we wanted within our budget. There were no surprises money wise and he kept us apprized of every cost as we made changes, something that always happens as things evolve. Dan also did not nickel and dime us, something that is common with most builders.
Throughout the entire construction process, Dan was on site virtually every day. His attention to every detail and ability to organize, schedule and manage the many subcontractors, working side by side with each other, was truly amazing. Every sub and supplier, from previous experience with Dan, knows he is a total perfectionist with extremely high standards and that nothing short of perfect is acceptable.
As we have been told and now have experienced first hand, Dan is known and respected for his unquestionable integrity and honesty and demonstrates daily that his impeccable reputation is what he values most. He does what he says he will do, a rarity in any business field today, especially home construction.
